      <image:title>Temperature Inversion - Temperature Inversion</image:title>
<image:caption>This body of work explores optical resonances by manipulating colour and tone in order to delay the perception of painterly space. The title of the show, “Temperature Inversion”, in one sense refers to colour pushing and pulling for optical affect. It is also a term for a natural phenomenon in which the higher one travels, the warmer it gets – a reverse of the natural order of things. The inversion contains heat in a layer and often results in the trapping of particles creating a hazy atmosphere. The illusion of dense atmosphere contrasts with oil impasto and flat graphic forms via collage-like construction rupturing the deep vista of the traditional landscape painting. Lastly, these works continue to explore the motif of the tree house, implying provisional architecture in a space between a backyard, a recreational campouts or a survivalist shelter.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Installation of Colourfield Cookstove Flatpack sculptures, Light Collector (Yellow Orange Light) painting, and Colourfield Cookstove Small Model sculptures “Atmospheric Resonance”, in addition to referring to the optical experience of luminous colour, is a natural terrestrial electromagnetic phenomenon driven by fluctuations in global lightning storm activity. Also called “Schumann Waves”, this vibration is believed by some to have an effect on human circadian rhythm, binding the earth’s cycles with those of the body. In a series of pared down paintings depicting provisional architecture and geometric form, imperfect yet functioning structures connote a practical, intimate and evolving relationship between user and environment. The “Colour Field Cook Stove” painted sculptural forms are based on a functioning flat packed and folded cook stove design utilizing radiant colour and tone to generate "heat", instead of the prescribed reflective foil. Inspired by systems that harness sun, wind and water, the poetic potential to represent connection with natural cycles in our everyday life is investigated.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Energy Collectors - Energy Collectors</image:title>
<image:caption>Poster series, laser cut paper digitally printed, 2018 The “Energy Collector” cardstock posters may be folded into an imagined solar energy collecting mechanism, addressing the interplay between functional design and art while providing the viewer the option of following the printed instructions to pop-out and assemble the prototype technology. I’m interested in the dissemination of the artwork through the multiple, the engagement of the viewer/participant in 3D form construction, and the idea of modifying and developing a tool through improvised experimentation. This project has taken various forms, including a stack of 1000 offset-print and die-cut take away posters, and a smaller A4 version given to viewers at Plan Z in Altea, Spain. Along side this poster work, I developed the “Solar Array” projected animation specifically for Plan Z. It depicts the transportation, unfolding and installation of a solar energy collector device in a northern landscape, locating an abstracted schematic in proximity to a naturalistic reflection of the surroundings. I was interested in expanding ideas regarding connection to natural cycles implied in the “Energy Collector” posters to fully represent the landscape as a reflection in the panels, and relating to an engagement with atmosphere, romanticism and colour field developed in my paintings on canvas.</image:caption>

<image:caption>While in residence at the AGAlab Amsterdam, I developed and exhibited “Fold and Gather”, a series of large scale silkscreened and laser-cut posters, further developing aesthetic and conceptual directions established with the “Energy Collector” project. Exploring intersections between painting and graphic design, I have recently been exploring the subject of DIY solar energy technology in order to investigate aspects of painting and design as they relate to one another, such as the ameliorative potential vs. romantic projection embodied in both traditions, and the negotiation between public vs. private modes of distribution. In addition to using standard inks, I experimented with layers of photosensitive, colour changing ink, further implying the possibility of solar energy collection. The posters also include pop-out schematic designs that fold into a 3D object/technologies. This project follows my interest in a broader dissemination that print enables, as well as ideas around portability and D-I-Y agency through assembly of imagined technologies. Cardboard Solar Cook Stove Hand cut collage that was scanned, manipulated and screen printed on newsprint. Addition of 30 stacked and freely distributed in gallery, 2019</image:caption>
