The title of the show, “Temperature Inversion”, in one sense refers to colour pushing and pulling for optical affect. It is also a term for a natural phenomenon in which the higher one travels, the warmer it gets – a reverse of the natural order of things. The inversion contains heat in a layer and often results in the trapping of particles creating a hazy atmosphere. The illusion of dense atmosphere contrasts with oil impasto and flat graphic forms via collage-like construction rupturing the deep vista of the traditional landscape painting.
